SAINT PETER, Minn. - The top-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a 2-0 win at No. 2-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Tuesday evening.
The Falcons' program record win streak extends to 22 victories while sweeping the season series against the rival Gusties, following up the 2-0 win on Dec. 5 and 3-2 on Dec. 13.Â
UWRF scored twice in the second period while
Jordan O'Connor made 28 saves to collect her fifth shutout of the season, and her second against Gustavus.Â
After a scoreless first frame,
Maddie McCollins opened the game's scoring on the power play just over 11 minutes into the second period, with help from
Aubrey Nelvin and
Alex Hantge, her team-leading sixth power play tally and 27th goal of the season. With seconds left in the period, defender
MaKenna Aure's shot from the point found its way through a screen to put the Falcons up 2-0 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Brooke Lemke and McCollins picked up assists on the Aure goal.
Gustavus outshot the Falcons 11-8 in the third period, and pulled its goaltender Katie McCoy late in regulation but to no avail as UWRF escaped with the win.
UWRF (22 overall, 9-0 WIAC) hosts UW-Superior this Saturday during Senior Night at Hunt Arena.
