Men’s Soccer defeats Lawrence, 3-1, behind two goals from Ben Harris

APPLETON, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's soccer team was victorious over Lawrence, 3-1, on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Freshman forward Ben Harris led the way with two goals, while freshman Landon Christiansen added UWRF's third goal. All four of the goals scored in the game came in an action-packed second half. The win improved River Falls' record to 3-6 on the season.

Neither team was able to score in the first 45 minutes, despite an 8-4 advantage in shots by the Falcons. Freshman goalkeeper Alvaro Boned recorded four first-half saves, on his way to seven total saves in the win.

In the second half, the Falcons added 13 shots and saw an increase in goal chances. In the 60th minute, Harris scored a goal assisted by Christiansen and Noah Meschke to break the scoreless draw. Just over 10 minutes later in the 71st minute, Harris scored again, this time assisted by Richardson.

The Falcons added an insurance goal in the 85th minute, as Christiansen scored unassisted. Lawrence added a goal off a penalty kick in the 86th minute, but UWRF held off any further comeback and walked away victorious.

Harris' two goals tonight marked the third time this season that a freshman Falcon has recorded a multi-goal game. Harris led the way with six shots, while Richardson and Ashton Musgrave each added three.

Up next, UWRF is set to compete in its first WIAC conference matchup as a program. The Falcons will host UW-Whitewater at Ramer Soccer Stadium at 4 p.m. on Oct. 4.
