PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's soccer team lost its road matchup at UW-Platteville, 4-0, on Friday, Oct. 18.
The Falcons held the Pioneers scoreless through the first 26 minutes, but a pair of goals in both halves tilted the balance of the match toward UW-Platteville. The loss, which is the team's first WIAC loss, dropped UWRF's record on the season to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
In the first half, goalkeeper Alvaro Boned recorded four saves for the Falcons. Both teams remained scoreless until the 27th minute, when a cross from the corner by the Pioneers bounced off the back line for an own-goal. Just under 10 minutes later in the 36th minute, Westley Hankes scored a goal assisted by Justin Williiams to double UW-Platteville's lead to 2-0, a score that held through halftime.
UW-Platteville held a 12-3 advantage in shots in the second half and added two more goals to the scoreline. Ethan Dietrich scored in the 55th minute and Aiden Hatleberg added UW-Platteville's fourth goal in the 66th minute.
Up next, UWRF is set to conclude its four-game road swing with a non-conference matchup at Saint John's on Oct. 21. The match is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m.
