No. 20 Falcons head to Whitewater for final regular season road game

The No. 20/21-ranked UWRF football team closes out its 2024 regular season road schedule this Saturday at UW-Whitewater.

AGAINST THE WARHAWKS
  • Saturday's matchup marks the 66th all-time matchup between UW-River Falls and UW-Whitewater, with the Warhawks holding a 43-20-2 series advantage.
  • Last season, UW-Whitewater prevailed 21-14 in River Falls. 
IN THE RANKINGS
  • UWRF dropped from No. 9/11 to No. 20/21 in this week's DIII national polls, ranked No. 20 by the AFCA Coaches and No. 21 by D3football.com
  • The Falcons were ranked as high as No. 4 after the Oct. 5 win over UW-Eau Claire, tying the program's highest national ranking by a media outlet.
  • UWRF was tabbed to finish third in the 2024 WIAC Preseason Poll. UW-La Crosse, the defending league co-champions, has been picked to capture the 2024 WIAC Championship.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Falcons suffered their second loss of the season at No. 22-ranked UW-La Crosse last Saturday, falling 28-24.
    • UWRF held a 243-171 advantage in passing yardage, but UW-La Crosse's rushing attack made a large difference in the game, as the Eagles ran for 259 yards and averaged 4.7 yards per attempt. In a back-and-forth matchup, the Falcons led early in the fourth quarter but ultimately saw the Eagles pull away with a late touchdown to win by four.
    • Quarterback Riley Warzynski passed for 241 yards and wide receiver Austin Rush compiled a career-high 131 receiving yards on nine catches, including a 34-yard touchdown reception from Warzysnki.
    • UWRF defensive back Aaron Borgerding recorded 16 total tackles and 13 solo tackles — the solo tackles marked a new career high for the senior. Defensive back Andrew Schumacher recorded both a tackle for loss and interception. 
FALCON NOTES
  • UWRF leads the WIAC and ranks eighth in Division III with 190 total first downs. UWRF also leads the league with 45.3 points and 467.3 yards of total offense per game.
  • The Falcons share the WIAC lead and rank ninth in DIII with 13 passes intercepted.
  • Junior linebacker Gage Timm ranks fourth in the WIAC with 60 total tackles and second with nine tackles for loss. He had 20 tackles at Alma College on Sept. 7 and was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
    • Michael Brown is tied for second in the WIAC with 10 passes defended having totaled eight pass breakups and two interceptions. 
    • Quarterback Cade Fitzgerald is the WIAC leader with 10 touchdowns and ranks third with 482 rushing yards.
    • Austin Rush is tied for the lead in the WIAC with six receiving touchdowns.
  • Junior kicker Justin Scheberl made a career-long 42-yard field goal at UW-La Crosse last week, and is three made PATs away from tying the UWRF all-time record set by Andy Feil, who totaled 138 extra points from 1986-89. He came into this season ranked third all-time with 97 extra points made.
  • Senior defensive back Aaron Borgerding was named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy, an award that recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
