RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team fell 3-0 against No. 18-ranked UW-Platteville Friday evening at Page Arena.
UWRF drops to 8-10 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC while the Pioneers improve to 16-2 overall, extending their win streak to six games.
Despite losing in three sets, the Falcons came out strong, hitting .231 with 15 kills in the first set. The first frame featured six lead changes, with UWRF leading by as many as 15-9 after a 6-0 run, capped off by an
Amanda Baumann kill. UWP answered though with a 6-0 run of its own to claim a 17-16 lead, and they didn't give the lead back, winning the set 25-21 to take a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers outmatched the Falcons in the second set, limiting UWRF to a 0.073 hitting percentage while hitting an impressive .424 with 16 kills on just two errors, winning the set 25-15.
Down 2-0, the Falcons found themselves down by 16-9 in the final set before some late life, stringing together a 5-0 run to trim the Platteville lead to 23-20, but the visitors closed out the set 25-21 to bring home a win.
Grace McDole led the Falcons with seven kills while
Cora Sayotovich had 27 assists and
Audrey Petersen had 11 digs.
UWRF returns to action tomorrow at the Augsburg Triangular in Minneapolis, Minn.
