MOORHEAD, Minn. — The No. 15-ranked UW-River Falls men's hockey team bounced back from its first loss of the season with its first shutout, topping Concordia College 1-0 Saturday night.
The Falcons improve to 4-1 overall before heading into WIAC play next weekend. UWRF hosts UW-Stevens Point next Friday, Nov. 22 for its conference opener at Hunt Arena.
Brennan Boynton made 27 saves to earn his first shutout as a Falcon and
Alex Atwill scored the game-winning goal in the third period, the first of his career.
After 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, Atwill's first as a Falcon at 10:42 of the third period made the difference. With help from his linemates
Arsenii Smekhnov and
Burke Simpson, Atwill received a cross-ice pass and snapped shot past the glove of Cobber goaltender Dane Couture for the game-winner.
Concordia finished with a 27-16 lead in shots, and both teams went scoreless during a combined nine power play chances.
Cole Teleki and
Reid Lune led the Falcons with three shots on goal each.
