MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) released its Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 9-15, with Brielle Kuechle earning Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Lauryn Schutz claiming Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Kuechle, a sophomore from Eden Valley, Minn., placed second in the 60-meter hurdles at the Saint Scholastica Opener this weekend, clocking in at 9.25 seconds. Her time moved her up to seventh all-time in the UW-River Falls record book for the event and currently stands as the fastest time in the WIAC. In addition to her runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles, Kuechle also won the women's high jump with a jump of 5-3 (1.60m).
Schutz, a freshman from St. Paul, Minn., finished as the top collegiate competitor in the women's shot put at the St. Scholastica Opener this past weekend. She threw 40-2 ¼ (12.25m), which currently ranks second in the WIAC.
For Kuechle and Schutz, the conference honors both came after the athletes' first time competing for the Falcons.
UWRF opened its 2024-25 indoor season at the St. Scholastica Opener last weekend, bringing in six first-place finishes and 20 top-three placements across the men's and women's events. Up next, the Falcons will travel to face off with UW-Eau Claire in a dual meet on Jan. 18.
