ASHLAND, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team won 4-1 during its regular season finale Saturday night at Northland College.
UWRF closes out the regular season sweeping the Lumberjacks to finish fourth in the WIAC standings with a 14-9-2 overall record and 6-7-2 WIAC ledger. UWRF receives the No. 4 seed for the WIAC Tournament and will host No. 5 seeded UW-Superior Feb. 16-17 at Hunt Arena.
The Falcons were led by a pair of goals from
Connor McGrath and multi-point nights from
Valentino Passarelli and
Burke Simpson.
McGrath opened the scoring in the first period, tipping a
Joey Foss shot from the point to give UWRF a 1-0 lead. In the second, Passarelli added on to the lead scoring on a rush to give the Falcons a two-goal advantage heading into the third period, which stood as the eventual game-winner.
Early in the third, McGrath scored his second of the game on an odd-man rush feed from Simpson. Northland broke the shutout late in regulation and pulled its goalie late for a comeback attempt, but a
Gibb Coady empty-net goal helped sealed the win for the Falcons.
Dysen Skinner made the start in net and made 17 saves to improve his record to 7-3-1.
