RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 4 seeded UW-River Falls men's hockey team earned a 1-0 shutout over No. 5 seed UW-Superior Saturday night at Hunt Arena to advance to the WIAC Semifinals.
Coming off a 3-2 win over UWS last night, UWRF (16-9-2) followed up with a shutout and will now travel to face No. 1 seed UW-Stevens Point next weekend, Feb. 23-24.
After a pair of scoreless periods to open the game, an
Aidan Torres shot from the point snuck its way through traffic and past Yellowjacket goaltender Jack Boschert to give UWRF a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the third period.
Sam Anzai and
Gibb Coady were credited with the assists on the eventual game-winner.
Dysen Skinner made the start in net and tallied 29 saves to earn his third shutout of the season.
Each team went scoreless on the power play while UWRF totaled 39 shots on goals compared to Superior's 29. The Falcons also led 37-30 in faceoffs.
Puck drops are set for 7 p.m. both nights at KB Willet Arena in Stevens Point, Wis.
