EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team closed out the 2023-24 regular season with a 4-1 win at No. 6-ranked UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons finished the regular season with an undefeated 25-0 overall record and 12-0 conference ledger.
UWRF had four different goal scorers, scoring in each of the three periods to take a four-goal lead before the home team broke the shutout late in regulation.
Bailey Olson finished with two assists while
Jordan O'Connor made 24 saves to improve her record to 17-0.
Near the midway point of the first period,
Alex Hantge scored to give UWRF a 1-0 lead after one period. The Falcons extended their lead to 2-0 in the second with Braelyn Sather's first goal of the season, the eventual game-winner..
Madison Kadrlik and
Kaitlyn Ronn scored in the third period to give UWRF the four-goal cushion.
UWRF earned the top seed for the WIAC Tournament/O'Brien Cup and will host a semifinal matchup next weekend, Feb. 23-24 against the winner of No. 5 seed Northland/No. 4 seed UW-Stevens Point.
