No. 1 Falcons rout Pointers in WIAC Semifinal opener, 7-0

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The top-ranked and No. 1 seeded UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened its WIAC Tournament Semifinal series against No. 4 seed UW-Stevens Point Friday evening with a 7-0 win at Hunt Arena.

The Falcons, now 26-0 overall, outshot the Pointers 77-10 with four Falcons recording multi-point games. Jordan O'Connor picked up her seventh shutout of the season in net.

UWRF took a 1-0 lead through the first period. MaKenna Aure opened the game's scoring with a shot from the point for her 12th goal of the season.

The Falcons scored three times in both the second and third periods, including a pair from Maddie McCollins. Not only did McCollins break the UWRF record for games played with her 124th appearance as a Falcon to break Chloe Kinsel's record of 123 career games set from 2012-16, her first goal of the game broke a UWRF single-season goal scoring record with her 29th of the season. She also set the record last season with 28 goals.

UWRF went 2-for-4 on the power play and were successful on a pair of penalty kills. McCollins finished with four points off two goals and two assists, Aure had a goal and two assists, and Alex Hantge and Kailey Niccum both had two assists. Allisen Carothers also had two points with a goal and an assist.

The Falcons and Pointers play again tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. inside Hunt Arena.
