Falcons' Season Ends in WIAC Tournament First Round

MENOMONIE, Wis. - The No. 6 seeded UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell by a score of 70-54 Monday evening at No. 3 seed UW-Stout in the first round of the WIAC Tournament.

UWRF finishes the year with a 14-12 overall record, the program's second consecutive winning season.

The Blue Devils limited the Falcons to under 40 percent shooting from the field and a 5-of-21 mark from beyond the arc while rebounds were tied at 35 apiece. UWRF's 13 turnovers were also costly, turning into 13 Blue Devils points.

UW-Stout started off hot, claiming a 13-4 lead six and a half minutes into the contest before the Falcons settled in. UWRF closed out the first quarter on a 6-0 run to trail 13-10 heading into the second period. The Falcons then outscored the Blue Devils 14-12 in the second and trailed 25-24 at halftime.

UWRF opened the second half strong, totaling 14 points in the first four minutes, capped off by a pair of Emily Kulstad free throws to give the Falcons' their largest lead of the game at 38-31. From then on though, UW-Stout rallied and UWRF saw its lead dwindle by the end of the quarter. The home team kept its foot on the gas in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Seniors Julia Seidel and Macy Nilsen led the Falcons with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Fellow senior Kameri Meredith led the way with seven rebounds.
