No. 2 Falcons set for home & home weekend series versus Yellowjackets

The No. 2-ranked UWRF women's hockey team has a pair of games this week, hosting a non-conference matchup against St. Catherine University on Thursday before heading back into conference action at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.

FALCON NOTES

  • The Falcons are ranked No. 2 in this week's USCHO and DIII Hockey News Division III national polls.
  • UWRF is coming off a 2-0 week, routing St. Catherine University with a season-high 12 goals on Thursday, Jan. 9. The Falcons followed up with a season-high 71 shots on goal during a 5-1 road win at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, Jan. 11.
  • UWRF opened the new year over the weekend with a road series at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., sweeping the Cobbers with 4-1 and 7-1 wins. Friday's win earned head coach Joe Cranston his 500th career victory as he became the fourth head coach in NCAA Division III women's hockey history to reach the 500-win milestone. 
  • Before the break, the Falcons had their Division III record unbeaten streak of 40 games come to an end with a pair of losses Dec. 8-10 against Adrian and Gustavus. It also marked UWRF's first two losses in a row since 2019.
  • The Falcons are the top scoring team in DIII with 5.8 goals per game, leading the nation with 87 goals and 222 points, along with the second-best scoring margin at 3.67.
  • Megan Goodreau is Division III's leading scorer with 28 points off 10 goals and 18 assists. 
  • Katherine Bell is tied for the DIII goal scoring lead with 16 goals, scoring in all but three games this season. She recorded a hat-trick at St. Olaf on Nov. 26 and has scored in five-straight games.
