MOORHEAD, Minn. — The No. 2-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened the new year with a 4-1 win at Concordia College Friday night as head coach
Joe Cranston earned his 500th career win in his 26th season leading the Falcons.
Cranston, the reigning AHCA National Coach of the Year, becomes the fourth head coach in NCAA Division III women's hockey history to reach the 500-win milestone.
The Falcons, now 8-2-2 overall, erased an early deficit and scored four unanswered goals during the win, opening the weekend road series on top. UWRF had four different goal scorers while freshman goaltender
Catt Donna made her first career start in net and tallied 20 saves to collect her first career win.
Concordia got on the board first, scoring early just over three minutes into regulation. Just a minute past the midway point of the period though UWRF tied the game with
Izzy Stephes' first goal as the Falcon to tie the game at 1-1 through 20 minutes.
After a scoreless middle frame, the Falcons put the game away in the third, scoring three goals and outshooting the Cobbers 14-6, finishing with a 46-21 edge in shots on goal.
Katherine Bell,
Megan Goodreau, and
Bailey Olson all found the back of the net in the third, while
Allisen Carothers finished with a pair of assists.
The Falcons go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. puck drop in Moorhead, Minn.
