Falcons sweep Cobbers to open new year

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The No. 2-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated Concordia College 7-1 Saturday afternoon to sweep the Cobbers in a non-conference weekend series.

The Falcons, now 9-2-2 overall, defeated Concordia 4-1 last night, earning head coach Joe Cranston his 500th career win.

UWRF scored twice in the first, three times in the second, and two more in the third for the win. The Falcons also scored once on the power play and outshot the home team 47-18.

Katherine Bell, Megan Goodreau, and MaKenna Aure led the way with two goals each, while Kylie Jones had three assists and one goal.

Freshman goaltender Olivia Hansen made her second start of the season in net and tallied 17 saves to collect her second win of the season. She held the Cobbers scoreless for 48 minutes until they broke the shutout in the third period.

The Falcons return home to host St. Catherine University next Thursday, Jan. 9 at Hunt Arena.
