MENOMONIE, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's basketball team dropped a WIAC road game at No. 23-ranked UW-Stout Wednesday evening by a score of 73-48.
Despite leading by as many as 17-11 early on, the Blue Devils closed out the first half on a run and carried their momentum into the second half to sink the Falcons.
In the first half, the Falcons and Blue Devils traded four leads while UWRF maintained an advantage for most of the half, outscoring the home team 15-11 in the first quarter and leading by six early into the second quarter after an
Olivia Hoerl layup. UW-Stout then outscored the Falcons 16-11 in the second period to claim a 27-26 edge at halftime. Hoerl and
Olivia Miron led UWRF with eight points each through two quarters.
Stout used a 29-point effort in the third quarter to run away with the game, shooting 10-of-15 from the field, heading into the final 10 minutes with a 21-point advantage.
The Falcons, who shot over 50 percent in the first quarter, were held to an under 30 percent mark for the rest of the night.
Hoerl led UWRF with 15 points, three assists, and three steals, followed by 12 points from Miron along with her team-high eight rebounds.
UWRF (8-5, 0-2 WIAC) returns to Page Arena this Saturday, Jan. 11 during Alumni Day to host its first conference home game against UW-Eau Claire.
