RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's hockey team opened its 2025-26 season at home on Friday evening at Hunt Arena, defeating Lawrence University 7-1.
After the visiting Vikings scored the game's opening goal on their first shot attempts under two minutes into regulation, the Falcons settled in and responded with seven unanswered goals, led by a hat-trick from freshman
Keenan Ingram in his collegiate debut.
Lawrence came out strong in the first period, scoring early and leading 11-10 in shots through 20 minutes, but a pair of goals by Ingram gave UWRF a 2-1 lead at the first intermission, and the Falcons didn't look back, scoring three more in the second period and twice more in the third.
The all-freshmen line of
Keenan Ingram,
Ben Portner, and
Gavin Middendorf were outstanding in their Falcon debuts, leading the charge and combining for 10 points as Ingram scored three with an assist, and Portner & Middendorf added three assists each.
Tyler Lee extended UWRF's lead to 3-1 early in the second period, and minutes later Ingram completed the hat-trick with a power play goal.
Hunter Jones,
Max Collette, and
Jonny Meiers also found the back of the net to give the home team the six-goal cushion.
Brennan Boynton earned the win in net, tallying 31 saves.
Tyler Waram and
Zach Sondreal also collected their first points as Falcons in their debuts with assists.
UWRF finished with a 43-32 shot advantage, and led 40-23 in faceoffs. Ingram led the Falcons with seven shots on target, followed by six from Middendorf.
The Falcons (1-0, 0-0 WIAC) play the Vikings again tomorrow night at Hunt Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
