RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus on Tuesday evening in Smith Stadium, dropping to 3-6-3 while the Gusties improved to 9-3-0.
The first half was tight, with the Falcons and Gusties going back and forth. The Falcons found themselves trailing 1-0 at half after Kieran Mahan's 37
th minute goal. Gustavus extended their lead early in the second half when Joe Flory scored in the 51
st minute. The Falcons faced a setback in the 57
th minute when
Danny Acevedo received a red card, leaving them a man down. Sam Kaeding sealed the win for Gustavus in the 77
th minute, assisted by Rivaldo Pena.
UWRF managed eight shots, with
Sorel Richardson leading with three, but only one was on goal, from
Daniel Pirillo, saved by Gustavus goalkeeper Vikram Couto.
Jaden Mendias, in his first start of the season, made one save for the Falcons. Gustavus outshot UWRF 15-8, including 5-1 in shots on goal, and earned six corner kicks to UWRF's three.
Despite a continued effort throughout the match, the Falcons couldn't convert their chances. They'll look to rebound in their next WIAC matchup against the Blugolds on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in Eau Claire, Wis.
