RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team used an efficient fourth-quarter effort Saturday afternoon at Page Arena to pull away from Minnesota Morris, earning a 60-52 non-conference victory over the Cougars.
The Falcons went for 22 points in the fourth quarter, connecting on four three-pointers in the period while going 8-of-10 at the free-throw line to seal the win. UWRF shot 8-of-28 from beyond the arc and added 23 points from its bench.
UWRF overcame a slow third quarter, scoring just nine points, but the Falcon defense kept the game within reason. The Falcons forced 17 Cougar turnovers, turning those into 11 points while limiting Morris to one made three-pointer all afternoon.
Zoey Buchan sparked the fourth-quarter push with back-to-back threes, while
Emily Anderson added key scoring that extended the Falcon lead down the stretch.
Despite Morris' strong inside presence, led by team-high 20 points from Shelby Mortenson, UWRF carried the momentum towards the end of the competition. The Falcons finished the night with seven steals and held the Cougars to just 36.5 percent shooting from the field.
