RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell 4-1 Friday evening at Hunt Arena in the first of the three-game regular season against WIAC foe UW-Stout.
The Blue Devils took an early lead and were solid defensively, outshooting the Falcons 31-25 while holding UWRF scoreles on two power play chances.
Just under six minutes into regulation, the Blue Devils earned the game's first lead with a rebound goal from Arhip Sidarovich.
Late in the first,
Luke Margenau received a tripping penalty and UW-Stout capitalized on its first power play chance of the game as Maksis Brimanis was the beneficiary of a nice passing play to give the visitors a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Stout added another goal in the second to extend its lead to three early in the second, where it stood heading into the final 20 minutes.
With under four minutes left in regulation, the Falcon gained some life as
Hunter Jones got UWRF on the board, jumping on a loose puck in the crease for his second goal of the season.

Brennan Boynton was pulled with under two minutes to go for the extra attacker, but the Blue Devils scored an empty net goal to seal the 4-1 win.
The Falcons, now 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the WIAC, head to Menomonie tomorrow night to round out the weekend series versus the Blue Devils. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Fanetti Community Center.
