RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team made a successful return to Don Page Arena on Friday evening. The Falcons close out the year with a 74-57 victory over the Augsburg Auggies.
The Falcons set the tone early, jumping out to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter, never looking back. UWRF continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, taking a 39-25 advantage into the break.
Zoey Buchan led the Falcons offensively, finishing with 16 points on 6-of-11 from the field and perfect from the free-throw line. Savannah Leopold followed with 13 points, knocking down 3-of-6 from deep, while Sidney Schmit chipped in 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. UWRF had balanced production across the lineup, with Emily Anderson adding eight points and Annamarie Aue had seven points and added four boards. The Falcons finished the night with 23 bench points, continuing to showcase strength throughout the rotation.
On the opposite side of the court, the Falcons limited Augsburg to 41.8 percent shooting and just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc, while forcing 17 turnovers, converting them into 19 points. UWRF held the rebounding edge, 37-32, helping control the pace for most of the contest.
Falcons shot 41.7 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three and converted 15-of-21 from the free-throw line to close out the win.
With the victory, UWRF improves to 7-4 overall on the season and will look to carry recent momentum forward as it heads into conference play on Jan. 3, taking on UW-La crosse at Don Page Arena.
