Falcons see strong results at UW-Superior Maday Classic

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The UW-River Falls Track & Field program saw another productive showing this weekend, competing at the UW-Superior Maday Classic on Saturday, February 15.

In total, UWRF saw 10 first-place event finishes across the men's and women's competitions. The meet is the second to last regular season meet of the indoor season, before the Falcons head to Stevens Point for the WIAC Championships on Feb. 28.

TRACK

  • In the women's 1,000 meters Cailyn Kuechle won the event with a time of 3:00.16, a career-best time that came just .4 seconds off the program record in the event. Adison Wilde placed third at 3:03.69, which now ranks top five on the program record book.
  • Cooper Hennemann took the top spot in the men's 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.86. Charlie Theis placed third at 9.22. On the women's side, Brianna Strehlau won the 60-meter hurdles with a final time of 9.65.
  • Jaidyn McAlpine was the top finisher in the women's mile, clocking in at 5:23.54. In the men's mile, Wyatt Johnson placed third at 4:31.21.
  • Jack Richter won the men's 5,000 meters, clocking in at 15:48.69. Ryan Pierson was just behind in second place with a time of 15:49.41. On the women's side, Laina Viere placed first overall with a time of 18:33.10. Peyton Opsahl (18:39.31) and Emma Karnitz (18:51.98) followed in second and third place.
  • In the men's 60 meters, Treven Jensen placed first in the prelims (7.15) and second in the finals (7.07). The time is a new career best and moved up to sixth in the program record book. Gracie Tallier placed fourth in the women's 60 meters clocking in at 8.12, a time that is tied for ninth in the UWRF record book.
  • Logan Munson highlighted the 800 meters, placing second on the men's side with a time of 1:58.52.
FIELD
  • The women's pole vault podium saw a clean sweep of Falcons, led by Annika Gunderson in first with a jump of 3.60 meters (11-09.75). Kalli Jo Klocke (3.45m/11-03.75) and Makaiah Kempe (3.00m/9-10) placed second and third.
  • Cole Darling won the men's pole vault, leaping 4.20 meters (13-09.25). Noah Schneider placed third with a height of 3.90 meters (12-09.50).
  • Lauryn Schutz won the women's shot put with a throw of 12.32 meters (40-05) and Alexis Koch placed third at 12.04 meters (39-06).
  • In high jump, the Falcons saw a pair of runner-up finishes, as Haylie Rasmussen took second place on the women's side with a jump of 1.54 meters (5-00.5). On the men's side, Parker Woodland placed second with a height of 1.94 meters (6-04.25), a new career-best for Woodland.
  • Parker Woodland finished as the runner-up in men's triple jump with a leap of 12.04 meters (39-06). Jaren Spridco placed third with a mark of 11.82 meters (38-09). Brenna Schwartz placed third on the women's side with a jump of 10.47 meters (34-04.25).

UP NEXT

The Falcons will now head to the Snowshoe Open hosted by the University of Minnesota on Feb. 21.
