RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls Track & Field program concluded a successful weekend, hosting the 2025 UWRF Winter Classic at Knowles Field House in River Falls on Saturday, February 8.
In the team scoring, the Falcons took first overall in both the women's (276 points) and men's (176 points) competitions. Jacob Balcome saw a productive day across the board in the men's competition, setting a new program-best mark in long jump and winning four events.
Field Events
- In men's long jump, Jacob Balcome placed first with a jump of 7.13 meters (23-04.75). Balcome's jump set a new program record, surpassing any previous indoor or outdoor score in the event — the mark ranks 16th in Division III this season. Joe Guthrie placed third at 6.46 meters (21-02.5).
- Brielle Kuechle won the women's long jump, setting a new career-best mark of 5.53 meters (18-01.75), which stands at fourth in the UWRF record book and ranks 25th in Division III. Haylie Rasmussen (5.12m/16-09.75) placed second and Brenna Schwartz took third (4.83m/15-10.25).
- Brenna Schwartz' winning jump of 11.23 meters (36-10.25) ranks third all-time in the UWRF record book and stands at 37th in Division III. Makaiah Kempe jumped a career-best 10.78 meters (35-04.5) to place second overall. On the men's side, Jaren Spridco placed third with a leap of 12.27 meters (40-03.25).
- The Falcons saw a clean sweep in the men's shot put event, as Brady Sindelir led the way with a first-place finish at 14.61 meters (47-11.25). Charles Baker (13.82m/45-04.25) placed second and Ryan Dingwall (12.88m/42-03.25) took third.
- The Falcons saw similar success in women's shot put, sweeping the top four spots. Georgia Mundt took first with a throw of 12.55 meters (41-02.25), a career-best that ranks 10th all-time at UWRF. Alexis Koch (2nd/12.11m/39-08.75), Lauryn Schutz (3rd/11.99m/39-04), and Ali Clifford (4th/11.67m/38-03.5) followed behind Mundt in the top spots for the event.
- Lauryn Schutz continued her impressive season in weight throw, as she has improved in every meet this season. Schutz' first-place throw of 15.86 meters (52-00) is a new career best and stands at 10th in the North Region and 34th in Division III.
- On the men's side of the weight throw, Charles Baker won the event with a throw of 16.32 meters (53-06.5), a personal-best mark that ranks sixth all-time at UWRF.
- Annika Gunderson led the Falcons to a sweep in the women's pole vault, placing first with a season-best jump of 3.82 meters (12-06.5) — the jump currently ranks sixth in Division III. Kalli Jo Klocke placed second with a season-best 3.50 meters (11-05.75) and Abigail Biggs took third at 3.20 meters (10-06).
- Jacob Balcome won the men's pole vault, leaping 4.63 meters (15-02.25). His mark is a new career best and ranks fourth all-time at UW-River Falls.
- In men's high jump, Joe Guthrie and Zane Habisch tied for second with jumps of 1.95 meters (6-04.75).
Track Events
- Cailyn Kuechle won the women's 400 meters, clocking in at 1:00.86. Her time was just .24 seconds off a top-10 program mark. Kuechle had a productive day, also winning the women's 800 meters — she clocked in at 2:26.31. Madison Whitman (2:31) placed second and Alyson Jeurissen (2:33.58) took third.
- Logan Munson won the men's mile, clocking in at a career-best time of 4:27.63. Wyatt Johnson finished as the runner up with a time of 4:28.61. On the women's side, Adison Wilde (5:13.91) placed second and Jaidyn McAlpine (5:21.11) took third. Wilde's time was just .16 seconds off a program top-10 mark.
- Brianna Strehlau won the women's hurdles, finishing in 9.69 seconds — her time of 9.47 in the prelims ranks 10th all-time at UWRF. Haylie Rasmussen (9.85) was the runner up, Makaiah Kempe (9.91) placed third, and Greta Lauer (10.16) took fourth.
- Jacob Balcome won the men's 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.77 — the time is just .02 seconds off a career best. Cooper Hennemann placed third at 8.79, as the top-three was a photo finish.
- UWRF's mixed 4x400 relay team of Cailyn Kuechle, Haylie Rasmussen, Joe Guthrie, and Jacob Balcome placed first overall with a facility-record time of 3:52.26.
- Gracie Tallier led UWRF in the women's 60-meter dash, placing second at 8.15, finishing just .01 seconds off a top-10 program mark. Lauren Machacek placed third with a time of 8.33. In the men's 60-meter prelims, Trever Jensen placed second with a time of 7.09, which is a new career-best time and moved him up to sixth in the UWRF record book. Jensen finished fifth in the finals with a time of 7.14.
- Trever Jensen was the runner up in the men's 200, finishing in a time of 23.04, a career-best in indoor that ranks eighth on the program top-10 list. In the womens' 200 meters, Brianna Strehlau placed third with a time of 27.68.
- The women's 3,000 meters saw Laina Viere finish third with a time of 10:48.39 and Peyton Opsahl finish just behind in fourth at 10:50.70. On the men's side, Jack Richter was UWRF's top finisher in second with a time of 9:09.18, while Ryan Pierson placed third at 9:14.37.
