RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated Elmira College 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals for a second consecutive season.
The Falcons, now 24-3-2 overall, will remain at home as UW-River Falls is set as the host school for the NCAA Championship March 28 & 30. UWRF will face Augsburg University on Friday, March 28 at 7 p.m.
In a rematch of last year's national championship game, the Falcons duplicated its score from the 2024 matchup, scoring goals in each period including a pair on the power play.
The game's scoring opened late in the first period when Allisen Carothers put the Falcons on the board at 17:56 as Madison Kadrlik found her open at the point and her wrist shot found its way through traffic and the Soaring Eagle goaltender Sara Sevcikova. UWRF outshot Elmira 13-5 in the first 20 minutes and took its 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Just past the midway point of the second, Bailey Olson doubled the Falcon lead, capitalizing off a Soaring Eagle turnover for an open shot in the slot.
Leading 2-0 heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation, UWRF was afforded its first power play chance five minutes into the third. It took just eight seconds for the Falcons to strike as Megan Goodreau found Ellie Brice open on the back door, increasing UWRF's lead to 3-0.
Minutes later, Elmira gained some life with a goal from Erika Goleniak, trimming the Falcon lead to 3-1. However, the Falcons sealed the win with another power play goal late in regulation as Goodreau scored to push the lead back to three.
Jordan O'Kane was solid in net for the Falcons, making 18 saves while turning away several dangerous Elmira scoring chances. UWRF finished with a 43-19 edge in shots on target, led by six shots from Madison Kadrlik.
UWRF will host the remainder of the NCAA Tournament, March 28 & 30 at Hunt Arena. The semifinals are slated for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, followed by the championship game at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. Ticket sales will be ONLINE ONLY and fans can purchase tickets now
