MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The UW-River Falls baseball team fell in a non-conference game at Division I opponent UW-Milwaukee of the Horizon League Wednesday afternoon by a score of 13-5.
The Falcons, now 5-4 overall, earned a 2-0 early lead before the Panthers ran away with the game down the stretch, scoring eight runs in the sixth through eighth innings.
UWRF got the scoring started right away, with leadoff batter
Cade Bruett reaching on a wild pitch and coming around to score after a hit from
Tanner Hraby and another wild pitch. An RBI groundout from
Max Stocco then scored Hraby to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Milwaukee answered in the second to trim the deficit to 2-1, but the Falcons added another in the third with a
Kole Paulsen RBI single. In the bottom half of inning three, the Panthers scored four off two hits to claim a 5-3 advantage and didn't look back, maintaining a lead for the rest of the game.
The home team scored three more runs in the sixth and five more in the eighth to plate 13 total off 11 total base hits. UWRF added two more runs, one in the seventh and one in the ninth, both off wild pitches.
Hraby led the Falcons with two hits while Bruett scored two runs. Seven Falcons saw action on the mound, with
John Santelman receiving the start and tossing two innings, allowing one run.
