The UW-River Falls women's hockey team hosts Amherst College on Sunday, March 30 in the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championship.

THE SERIES
  • Sunday's game marks the fourth all-time meeting between UW-River Falls and Amherst, with the Mammoths leading the series 3-0. It will be the first matchup between the two programs in the national tournament.
  • Most recently, the Falcons and Mammoths met in 2012 in River Falls, a 2-1 Amherst victory.
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • Coming off the program's first National Championship last season, the Falcons are in their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance, earning an at-large bid after winning both the 2024-25 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season and tournament titles. 
  • The Falcons have reached the 'Frozen Four' seven times in program history (2003, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2024, 2025) and own a 15-15 overall record, dating back to the program's first national tournament appearance in 2003.
  • During national championship games, the Falcons own a 1-1 record, falling against Plattsburgh State in 2016 before defeating Elmira College in 2024.
FALCON NOTES
  • The Falcons came into the NCAA Tournament ranked fourth in the NCAA Power Index, receiving the No. 4 seed in the bracket.
  • UWRF is coming off a 4-2 win over Augsburg University Friday evening in the NCAA Semifinals at Hunt Arena. 
  • UWRF is the top scoring team in NCAA Division III, averaging 6.1 goals per game for a total of 182 goals. The Falcons also came into national championship weekend with a 34.4% power play success rate to lead the nation, having scored at least one power play goal in nine consecutive games, including five on March 28 against UW-Superior - a program record.
  • Individually, senior forward Bailey Olson is the DIII leading scorer with 57 points off 26 goals and 31 assists. She was named the AHCA Laura Hurd National Player of the Year and a First Team All-American earlier this week.
    • Behind Olson's national scoring lead, Megan Goodreau ranks second with 49 points (24g-25a), and the freshmen duo of Alexa Niccum (8g-26a-34p) and Kylie Jones - the WIAC Newcomer of the Year (8g-25a-33p) are the top two scoring rookies in the nation.
  • Along with Olson's All-America honor, Megan Goodreau, MaKenna Aure, and Jordan O'Kane also received All-American accolades, while Joe Cranston was the runner-up for the National Coach of the Year award.
  • During UWRF's current 10-game winning streak, junior goaltender Jordan O'Kane has made 10 consecutive starts in net, accumulating a .940 save percentage and a 1.17 goals against average, including a pair of shutouts.
