OSHKOSH, Wis. — The UW-River Falls baseball team opened a four-game WIAC road series at UW-Oshkosh Thursday afternoon, falling in both games against the Titans - who received votes in the latest national polls.
The Falcons (11-17, 4-12 WIAC) will return to action for the second leg of the four-game series against the Titans on Saturday in Oshkosh.
UW-Oshkosh 11, UW-River Falls 1 (7 inn.)
The Titans set the tone early, scoring four runs in the first inning. They continued to build their lead with two runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh. The Falcons managed to score a single run in the fifth inning but couldn't close the gap.
Offensively, UWRF was limited to five hits, with Kaleb Zabielski recording the lone RBI as his single scored Carter Klein in the fifth.
After a rocky start, Falcon starting pitcher Jackson Conway settled in and ended up allowing just two earned runs in fifth innings pitched.
UW-Oshkosh 12, UW-River Falls 0 (7 inn.)
The highlight of the game two was Titans pitcher Brett Gaynor's seven-inning no-hitter.
Gaynor was dominant on the mound, stifling the Falcon batters and nearly throwing a perfect game as they managed just one baserunner when Tanner Hraby reached first off a Titan error in the fourth inning.
