RIVER FALLS, Wis. – UW-River Falls men's soccer team continued its strong start to the 2025 season with a victory over Concordia College Sunday evening. Sparked by two goals from
Josh Villanueva and first-career goals from
Mauricio Cuevas and
Alex Hernandez, the Falcons secured their third consecutive home win.
The Falcons game out firing, generating 13 shotes in the first half. Villanueva, who has now scored three goals in the last two games, opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute with his second goal of the season.
Mauricio Cuevas added his first career goal in the 38
th minute, set up by
Noah Meschke to give UWRF a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Right away in the second half, Villanueva struck again in the 46
th minute, netting his second of the night with an assist by
Mateo Gonzalez.
Alex Hernandez finished off the scoring with his first career-goal in the 73
rdminute. The Falcons finished with 23 shots, with 11 shots on goal.
Concordia responded in the second half with Ricco Rolle and Parker Gast both finding the back of the net. Despite the Cobber's last push, the Falcon defense held firm to secure the victory.
The victory improves UW-River Falls to 3-1-0 on the season, while Concordia College falls to 0-2-2. The Falcons will return to Ramer Soccer Stadium and host St. Scholastica on Thursday.
