No. 1 Falcons Roll Past No. 8 Gusties 5-1 in Saint Peter

SAINT PETER, Minn. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team renewed its rivalry with No. 8-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon in the first of two regular season games scheduled against the Gusties this season, skating to a 5-1 victory.

The Falcons, now 13-1 overall with their ninth win in a row, had five different goal scorers, including two power play goals and Sami Pool's first of the season in her first game back from injury.

UWRF opened the scoring late in the first period when Madison Kadrlik netted her third goal of the season at the 14:04 mark, scoring on a rebound after a MaKenna Aure shot on goal, and UWRF led 1-0 after one period.

The Falcons broke the game open in the second period, scoring three times in a span of just over six minutes. Alexa Niccum doubled the lead with a power play goal on a breakaway at 5:58, which ultimately stood as the game-winning tally. Sami Pool followed with an even-strength goal at 9:22, and Katherine Bell capped the surge with her fourth goal of the season at 12:03 to make it 4-0.

Gustavus got on the board early in the third period with a power play goal from Gianna Gasparini, but the Falcons answered quickly. Megan Goodreau restored the four-goal cushion with a power play marker at 4:00, her team-leading 16th goal of the season, sealing the 5-1 win.

Jordan O'Kane earned the win in goal, stopping 25 shots. The Falcons outshot the Gusties 37-26 and finished 2-for-4 on the power play.

The Falcons and Gusties play again on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Hunt Arena.
