JANESVILLE, Wis. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened a weekend WIAC series skating to an 11-0 victory Friday evening at the Woodman's Sports Center.
UWRF received goals from seven different players and struck three times on special teams on its way to the season-high 11 goals. Madison Kadrlik recorded a hat trick (fifth of her career), while Lily McKenzie and Sophia Hess each added two goals (first and second of McKenzie's career) as the Falcons went 2-for-2 on the power play and added a shorthanded goal to cap a dominant performance.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead with five first-period goals, beginning with McKenzie's game-winner just over three minutes in - her first as a Falcon. UWRF controlled play throughout the opening frame and closed the period with a power play goal in the final seconds to take a 5-0 advantage.
UWRF added five more goals in the second period, including Kadrlik's third of the night on the power play.
The scoring wrapped up early in the third when Hess scored shorthanded, giving UWRF its third special teams goal of the night.
UWRF outshot Beloit 63-11 and finished the night perfect on the power play. Catt Donna made her first start of the season in net and earned her second career shutout, stopping all 11 shots she faced.
The Falcons and Buccaneers play again tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
