JANESVILLE, Wis. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team won 9-1 on Saturday afternoon to sweep the WIAC series against Beloit College.
The Falcons scored three times in the opening period and never looked back, improving to 18-1 overall and 6-1 in the WIAC. Eight different Falcons found the back of the net, led by two goals from Megan Goodreau and three assists from Kylie Jones.
Madison Lavergne opened the scoring midway through the first period, and Brooklyn Riley added a power play goal less than three minutes later. Megan Goodreau capped the opening frame with an even-strength tally to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead after one period.
UWRF extended the margin early in the second period with goals from Katherine Bell and Madison Kadrlik, the latter coming on the power play. Beloit briefly got on the board, but the Falcons answered with three more goals before intermission, including Goodreau's second of the game to take an 8-1 advantage into the third.
Sophia Hess closed out the scoring with a power play goal midway through the final period, giving UWRF three goals on three power play opportunities in the contest.
Anna Rader earned her second win of the season in net, making 15 saves and turning away five Buccaneer power play chances.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday, Jan. 31, hosting UW-Superior.
