RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's hockey team completed a weekend and regular season series sweep over UW-Superior with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Yellowjackets Saturday evening at Hunt Arena, capped by
Keenan Ingram's overtime game-winner.
The Falcons improve to 10-8-1 overall with their third win in a row, and 4-5 in the WIAC.
UW-Superior struck first just under two minutes into the contest, but UWRF responded midway through the opening period when Ben Portner scored on the power play at the 13:25 mark, finishing a setup from Luke Margenau and Alex Atwill. The Yellowjackets regained the lead with a goal in the final second of the first period to take a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.
UWRF evened the score at 2-2 midway through the second period as Ingram buried his first of two goals on the night, with Portner assisting. The Falcons carried the momentum for much of the period, outshooting Superior and generating sustained offensive-zone pressure.
Neither team found the back of the net in a tightly played third period, sending the game to overtime for the second consecutive night in the series.
In overtime, Ingram ended it quickly. After Margenau pushed the puck ahead in transition, Ingram went hard to the net and scored on his backhand for the game-winner at 1:35, sealing the sweep and sending the Hunt Arena crowd into celebration.
In goal, Brennan Boynton earned the win after stopping 28 shots. UWRF outshot the Yellowjackets 39-30 and went 1-for-1 on the power play.
The Falcons remain at home and continue WIAC play next weekend, hosting a two-game series against UW-Stevens Point at Hunt Arena.
