Falcons Earn 62-60 Road Win at No. 18-ranked UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's basketball team held on for a 62-60 WIAC victory over No. 18/21-ranked UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon at Williams Fieldhouse.

Tied 58-58 with under a minute left in regulation, Emily Anderson knocked down a cluth three-pointer that proved to be the game-winning field goal as the Falcons improved to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Pioneers had a look to tie the game late but missed to seal the Falcon win.

The contest featured 17 ties and nine lead changes, with neither team leading by more than six points over the final three quarters. Platteville tied the game at 58-58 with one minute remaining before Anderson calmly stepped into a three from the wing, giving the Falcons the edge for good.

Anderson finished with a team-high 17 points, connecting on four three-pointers and going 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. Zoey Buchan added 13 points and three assists, while Olivia Boily provided a spark off the bench with a season-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

UWRF opened the game strong, jumping out to a 17-10 lead after one quarter, but the Pioneers responded in the second and third periods to keep the game within a possession for much of the afternoon. UWP briefly grabbed momentum late in the third before the Falcons answered with timely buckets to stay even heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, neither team could create separation until the final minute. UWRF made key defensive stops down the stretch, including a missed three by Platteville with under 15 seconds left, before closing out the game at the free-throw line.

The Falcons shot 37.7 percent from the field and held Platteville to 36.4 percent shooting, while also forcing nine turnovers. UWRF also received 21 points from its bench in the victory.

UWRF returns to action next Wednesday, Jan. 28 at UW-La Crosse.
