Falcons Lock Down Stout in 66-48 WIAC Home Victory

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned a 66-48 WIAC victory over UW-Stout on Wednesday night at Page Arena, holding the Blue Devils to just 26.2 percent shooting from the field.

The Falcons, now 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC, set the tone early, opening the game on a 14-7 run and never trailing throughout. The Falcons limited UW-Stout to nine points in the first quarter and eight more in the second, taking a 37-17 advantage into halftime.

Freshman Emily Anderson led all scorers with a season-high 21 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and knocking down five three-pointers. Jocelyn Plonski added her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Savannah Leopold chipped in 11 points and five rebounds. Zoey Buchan contributed nine points and five assists as the Falcons finished the night shooting 42.3 percent from the floor.

Defensively, UWRF forced 19 turnovers and turned them into 18 points and outscored the visitors 10-4 in second-chance points.

UW-Stout led by Mary Berg's 16 points, but the Blue Devils struggled from long range, finishing 3-of-25 from beyond the arc.

The Falcons maintained a double-digit lead for the final 33 minutes of play, pushing the margin to as many as 25 points in the second half before closing out the 18-point conference win.

UW-River Falls returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, traveling to face No. 8-ranked UW-Whitewater.
