Track & Field at UW-Superior Maday Classic Recap

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday at the Maday Classic on the campus of UW-Superior.

The Falcons combined for six first-place finishes, highlighted by numerous personal records and season-best performances.

UWRF has one final tune-up before the WIAC Indoor Championships, traveling to the University of Minnesota's Snowshoe Open on Friday, Feb. 20 in Minneapolis.

 
MEN'S RESULTS

On the men's side, Logan Munson captured the 800-meter run title in 1:57.45. The 4x200-meter relay team of Ben Johnson, Isaiah Juneski, TJ Hanson, and Theodore Hovde also claimed first place with a season-best time of 1:33.84, ranking ninth all-time in the UWRF indoor record book.

Juneski led the Falcon sprinters with a season-best 60-meter dash time of 7.17, just outside UWRF's all-time top-10 list.

In the distance events, Wyatt Johnson recorded a personal-best 2:37.16 to finish runner-up in the 1,000 meters, while Jack Richter set a PR of 4:31.47 in the mile.

In the field events, Bryant Molamphy and Jacob Balcome each cleared 4.51 meters in the pole vault, marks that rank among the program's top 10.

Charles Baker paced the throwers with a third-place finish in the weight throw at 16.08 meters, the seventh-best mark in school history. He also placed fifth in the shot put at 13.60 meters.

WOMEN'S RESULTS

The Falcon women earned four event titles, led by Finley Noll's first-place finish and personal-record 9.50 in the 60-meter hurdles. Taylor Matter won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.42, Annika Gunderson took first in the pole vault, and Ali Clifford captured the shot put title.

Gunderson cleared a season-best 3.76 meters in the pole vault, a mark that ranks in the WIAC top 10 and among the top 22 in NCAA Division III. Bene Smith placed second with a personal-best clearance of 3.46 meters and also set a PR of 8.16 in the 60-meter dash.

Clifford won the shot put with a throw of 12.33 meters and added a runner-up finish in the weight throw at 16.40 meters — the third-best indoor mark in program history.

Freshman Ava Bringgold recorded a season-best and personal-best high jump of 1.55 meters to finish second, a mark that approaches UWRF's all-time top 10.

Laina Viere led the distance group with a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters, clocking 18:31.56 — another top-10 mark in program history. Brianna Strehlau set PRs in the 200m dash at 27.21 and the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.43, which cracks the UWRF top 10 list.
