MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team dropped a 69-54 road game to UW-Stout Wednesday evening inside Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Falcons (14-10, 7-6 WIAC) led early in the opening quarter but could not overcome an efficient second frame from the Blue Devils. Stout used a 25-point second quarter to take a 41-25 lead into halftime after shooting over 60 percent from the floor in the frame.
Zoey Buchan led UWRF with 14 points, knocking down two three-pointers and adding two steals. Jocelyn Plonski added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Madisyn Berggren provided a spark off the bench with eight points on 2-of-2 shooting from beyond the arc.
Olivia Boily chipped in six points and four rebounds, and the Falcon bench accounted for 20 points on the night.
After trailing by 16 at the break, River Falls continued to battle in the second half. The Falcons scored 15 points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth, cutting into the deficit but the Blue Devils were able to maintain control and the lead down the stretch.
UWRF finished the night shooting 32.7 percent from the field and 4-of-23 from three-point range, while the Blue Devils shot 43.3 percent overall and connected on eight three-pointers.
UW-Stout was paced by Julia Rybacki's 19 points off the bench, while Addy Verhagen added 15 points.
The Falcons will look to bounce back as they close out the regular season this weekend in River Falls, facing off against nationally ranked, #14 UW-Whitewater. Saturday's matchup will recognize the seniors of the Falcon squad, tip-off at 3 p.m.
