Regular Season Title on the Line as No. 1 Falcons Visit UW-Eau Claire on Saturday

The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team wraps up the 2025-26 regular season this Saturday, Feb. 21, traveling to No. 9/10-ranked UW-Eau Claire for a contest at Hobbs Ice Arena with significant conference implications.

The Falcons and Blugolds enter the final day of the regular season tied atop the WIAC standings. Saturday's winner will earn the WIAC regular season championship and secure the No. 1 seed in the WIAC O'Brien Cup Tournament.

THE SERIES

  • This Saturday marks the 108th all-time meeting between the Falcons and the Blugolds, with UWRF maintaining a 78-18-11 series lead.
  • This season's series is tied at 1-1. UWEC handed the Falcons their sole loss of the season on Nov. 22 before the Falcons answered with a 5-3 win on Feb. 7.
  • UW-Eau Claire is in search of its first WIAC regular season crown since 2020, with UWRF winning five in a row since 2021.

FALCON NOTES

  • UWRF remains ranked No. 1 in this week's USCHO and DIII Hockey News national rankings, receiving unanimous first place votes for the fifth consecutive week.
  • The Falcons are coming off a 3-0 week, outscoring Saint Mary's and UW-Stevens Point 20-2.
    • Against the Cardinals and the Pointers, Megan Goodreau and Sophia Hess led the Falcons with 10 points each, combining for 11 goals.
    • Last Tuesday against Saint Mary's, Goodreau tied a UWRF single-game record with four goals.
  • UWRF leads NCAA Division III with 5.3 goals per game, a +4.3 scoring margin, and owns the nation's best power play with 38 goals and a 45% success rate.
    • Megan Goodreau is the nation's leading scorer with 63 points off 29 goals and 34 assists, along with 14 power play goals (WIAC record) and six game-winners.
    • Last week, she totaled 10 points and was named the WIAC Player of the Week.
  • The Falcons have scored power play goals in 19 consecutive games, including and eight games in a row (Jan. 3-24) which they scored multiple power play goals in each game.
  • Sophia Hess ranks second behind Goodreau on the national scoring leaderboard with 47 points off 23 goals and 24 assists, and is the nation's top scoring freshman. 
    • MaKenna Aure is the DIII leader among defenders with 1.48 points per game with 31 points off 11 goals and 20 assists.
  • Senior Jordan O'Kane has started in 20 of 24 games this season in net and ranks second nationally while leading the WIAC with six shutouts. In addition, she leads the WIAC with a 1.0 goals against average and a .947 save percentage.
