Women's Hockey to host UW-Superior in WIAC O'Brien Cup Tournament Semifinals

The No. 1-ranked and top-seeded UW-River Falls women's hockey team is set to open the postseason this weekend, hosting No. 4 seed UW-Superior in the WIAC O'Brien Cup Tournament Semifinals.

  • This weekend's games will mark 100th and 101st all-time meetings between UW-River Falls and UW-Superior, with the Falcons leading the series 67-27-5.
    • The Falcons swept this year's WIAC regular season series over UWS with 4-0, 4-2, and 4-1 victories.
  • In WIAC O'Brien Cup Tournament history, the Falcons and Yellowjackets have met 10 times, with UWRF leading the series 9-0-1. 
    • The two teams met in the 2025 WIAC Semifinals, with the Falcons prevailing with 8-1 and 6-0 wins.

WIAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY

  • UWRF is in search of its seventh WIAC O'Brien Cup title in a row, and holds a 33-3-2 overall record in all-time tournament results since the O'Brien Cup inception in 2014.
  • Last season, the Falcons defeated UW-Eau Claire 4-1 in the championship game to claim their 10th O'Brien Cup title in program history.

FALCON NOTES

  • UWRF remains ranked No. 1 in this week's USCHO and DIII Hockey News national rankings, receiving unanimous first place votes for the fourth consecutive week.
  • The Falcons closed out the 2025-26 regular season last Saturday, Feb. 21 with a 6-3 win over UW-Eau Claire to clinch the WIAC regular season title, UWRF's sixth in a row and 12th overall.
    • During the win, Megan Goodreau totaled three points with a goal and two assists, reaching 198 career points to become UWRF's all-time leading scorer. She passed former Laura Hurd Player of the Year Callie Hoff's total of 197 points from 2017-22. She was named the WIAC Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
    • Madison Kadrlik, Kylie Jones, Katherine Bell, MaKenna Aure, and Sophia Hess also found the back of the net while Hess and Riley also had two assists apiece.
    • Jordan O'Kane made 15 saves in net to earn her 20th win of the season.
  • The Falcons are coming off a 5-3 win over No. 9-ranked UW-Eau Claire last Saturday at Hunt Arena, erasing a three-goal deficit with five unanswered goals.
  • UWRF continued its tear on the power play last time out in the regular season finale at UW-Eau Claire, scoring twice on the man advantage, adding to team's streak of 20 games in a row with at least one power play goal.
    • The Falcons lead NCAA Division III with a .455 percentage with a total of 40 power play goals, led by Megan Goodreau's total of 14, which is a WIAC single-season record.
    • UWRF also owns the top-scoring offense the nation with 5.4 goals per game with a +4.3 scoring margin.
  • Megan Goodreau is the national scoring leader with 66 points off 30 goals and 36 assists and is just one point shy of tying Callie Hoff's UWRF single-season point record of 67, set in 2021-22.
    • Behind Goodreau, Sophia Hess ranks third nationally and is the top scoring freshman with 50 points (24g-26a).
    • Among the nation's top scoring defenders, MaKenna Aure leads the country with 1.45 points per game with 32 points (12g-20a) in 22 games.
    • Goaltender Jordan O'Kane has started in 21 of 25 games this season in net and leads the WIAC with a .941 save percentage and a 1.10 goals against average. Her total of six shutouts also leads the WIAC nad ranks third nationally.
