RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team rolled to a 5-1 victory over UW-Superior Friday night at Hunt Arena in game one of the WIAC O'Brien Cup Tournament Semifinals.
The Falcons, now 25-1 overall, controlled play throughout, outshooting the Yellowjackets 59-15, including a 29-2 edge in the opening period.
Senior forward Megan Goodreau led the charge with her third hat trick of the season, scoring goals No. 31, 32 and 33 to tie the UWRF single-season goal record (matching Maddie McCollins' 2023-24 total) while also surpassing Callie Hoff's program single-season scoring record of 67 points set in 2021-22. Goodreau also eclipsed 200 career points, becoming just the third player in NCAA Division III women's hockey history to reach the milestone, joining Laura Hurd (Elmira) and Elizabeth Gibson (Plattsburgh State).
Goodreau opened the scoring just 2:30 into the first period off assists from Sophia Hess and Cahlilah Lindquist, then added a power play tally at 18:44 to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead after one.
Madison Kadrlik extended the advantage to 3-0 at 9:06 of the second, finishing a give-and-go setup from Katherine Bell and Sami Pool. UW-Superior answered on the power play at 15:47, as Avery Olenik cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Falcons pulled away in the third. Goodreau completed the hat trick at 10:47 off assists from MaKenna Aure and Hess, and Hess added her 25th goal of the season at 18:26 to seal the 5-1 final.
Hess finished with three points (1g, 2a), while Aure tallied two assists. Jordan O'Kane improved to 21-1 in goal with 14 saves, while Superior's Jayda Moyer made 54 stops in the loss.
UWRF also dominated the faceoff circle, winning 48 of 68 draws (70.6 percent), and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Falcons and Yellowjackets play again tomorrow at Hunt Arena with a 2:05 p.m. puck drop.
