Falcons' Rally Fall Shorts in 11-6 Loss to Macalester

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The UW-River Falls baseball team mounted a late comeback but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 11-6 to Macalester College on Tuesday morning at the RussMatt Invite.

Macalester jumped in front early, scoring once in the first inning before breaking the game open with a five-run second to take a 6-0 lead. The Scots tallied four hits in the inning, highlighted by a three-run double and back-to-back RBI doubles to cap the surge.

The Falcons got on the board in the fourth inning as Max Krebs scored on a wild pitch after leading off the frame with a single and advancing into scoring position. UWRF added two more runs in the sixth, cutting the deficit to 7-3. Carter Klein delivered a two-RBI single through the right side to bring home Andrew Athmann and JV Castillo.

Trailing 7-3 entering the eighth, the Falcons continued to chip away. Krebs singled to start the inning and later scored, while Patrick Lundgren drew a bases-loaded walk. Klein added another RBI on a fielder's choice, and Eddie Peine followed with an RBI single to pull the Falcons within one, down 7-6.

Macalester responded in the ninth, capitalizing on an error and a passed ball before adding insurance with a two-run double and an RBI single to extend its lead to 11-6.

Krebs led the Falcons with two hits and two runs scored, while Klein drove in a team-high three RBIs. Athmann reached base three times with three walks and scored twice.

On the mound, Ethan Hibicke took the loss after allowing six runs in 1.2 innings. Evan Senobe provided a strong relief outing, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

The Falcons, now 3-1 overall, wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow against Simpson College at 9 a.m. (ET) in Davenport, Fla.
