WAUKESHA, Wis. – The UW-River Falls baseball team came up short in both games of a Saturday doubleheader at Carroll, falling 14-11 in game one and 15-5 in game two.
In the opener, the Falcons' offense was active from the start, piling up 17 hits and building an early lead. UW-River Falls scored in all first five innings, highlighted by a big day at the plate from Andrew Athmann, who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Eddie Peine added a home run and two RBIs, while John Santelman and Kaleb Zabielski each recorded three hits.
After tying the game up in the third inning, the Falcons were undone by a seven-run frame from Carroll in the fourth. River Falls responded with four runs in the fifth to close the gap, but Carroll added insurance late to secure the 14-11 win.
In game two, Carroll jumped out early and never look back. The Pioneers plated five runs in the first inning and added four more in the second to take control. UW-River Falls responded with runs in the first, third, and fourth innings, but could not overcome the early deficit.
Santelman led the Falcons again in game two, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Athmann continued his strong day with three hits and two RBIs, while Patrick Lundgren and Hudson Wagner each drove in a run.
Despite tallying 12 hits in the second game, River Falls was unable to slow down Carroll's offense, which finished with 15 runs on 12 hits.
The Falcons will look to bounce back as they return home for their 2026 home opener on Wednesday, March 25, when they host Bethel at First National Bank of River Falls Field.
