RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball program has announced the hiring of Grant Erickson as an assistant coach.
Erickson returns to River Falls after spending the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach at Carleton College. Prior to joining the Knights, he spent eight seasons coaching at his alma mater, Lakeville North High School, where he served as the sophomore head coach and varsity offensive coordinator during his final three seasons.
"We're thrilled to welcome Grant back to our program," said Head Coach Jeff Berkhof. "Grant has always been an exceptional leader with a tremendous basketball IQ, and those qualities have only grown throughout his coaching career. He understands what it takes to compete and succeed in the WIAC. We're excited to have someone of Grant's character, knowledge and competitiveness join our staff."
During Erickson's tenure at Lakeville North, the Panthers posted a 173-56 overall record while advancing to three state tournament appearances and five section championship games, including one runner-up finish and two third-place finishes. The program also captured three conference championships during that span.
In addition to his high school coaching experience, Erickson has worked with Wear Out the Net Basketball Academy in Lakeville since 2013. Over the past 13 years, he has served in multiple roles, including coach, trainer, manager and AAU coordinator.
As a student-athlete, Erickson was a four-year starting point guard for the Falcons from 2013-17. He started 93 of 98 career games, averaged 7.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game with a 3.3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. His playing career culminated during the 2016-17 season when UW-River Falls finished 25-4, capturing both the WIAC regular season and tournament championships, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.
Erickson earned his bachelor's degree from UW-River Falls before beginning his coaching career, where he quickly established himself as one of the top young coaches in the Twin Cities area. After gaining experience at both the high school and collegiate levels, he now returns to his alma mater to help lead the next chapter of Falcon men's basketball.
