SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over the Yellowjackets Thursday afternoon at SCCU Stadium, using a second-half goal from
Abby Drontle and a shutout performance from
Courtney Bain to secure the win.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Falcons came out and generated six shots in the opening five minutes of the period, including attempts on goal from
Leah Hultman and
Emery Bigler.
The offensive pressure eventually paid off in the 55th minute. Drontle found the back of the net at the 54:25 mark, finishing a sequence assisted by Hultman and Bigler to give River Falls the 1-0 advantage.
UW-Superior pushed for an equalizer down the stretch, but the Falcon defense and Bain in goal held firm. Bain made a pair of saves in the final 10 minutes, including a stop on Lilly Breitkreutz in the 85th minute, to preserve the one-goal lead.
Bain finished the afternoon with four saves, recording the clean sheet. The Falcons and Yellowjackets each finished with 13 shots apiece. The Falcons held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Gabby Faletti led River Falls with four shots, while Bigler added three and
Inga Julstrom finished with two.
The victory moves UW-River Falls to 3-1-1 overall on the season.
