SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team improved to 6-2 on the season with a 3-1 victory over Marian Friday evening at Mertz Mortorelli Gym on the campus of UW-Superior during its first of three matches on the weekend at the Stinger Classic.
The Falcons opened the match with back-to-back dominant set victories, taking the first 25-10 and the second 25-15. Marian answered with a 29-27 win in the third, but UWRF closed out the match with a 25-23 fourth-set victory.
Amanda Baumann led the Falcons offensively with eight kills while hitting .368, adding two blocks. Blessing Adebisi followed with seven kills on 13 attacks (.308), while Emily Brenner recorded six kills and 11 digs.
Cora Sayotovich finished with 26 assists and a career-high five service aces. Audrey Petersen led the Falcons defensively with 14 digs.
UWRF hit .172 as a team and held Marian to a .103 hitting percentage. The Falcons also held a 13-2 advantage in service aces.
The Falcons face UW-Superior and St. Scholastica tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. versus the host Yellowjackets.
