OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team opened its WIAC schedule Friday evening, falling 3-0 to No. 1-ranked UW-Oshkosh at Kolf Sports Center. The Titans won by set scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-21.
The Falcons battled through a competitive opening set that featured seven ties and four lead changes, but the Titans pulled away for the 25-16 win. UWO followed with another 25-16 victory in the second set.
UWRF responded with its strongest performance of the night in the third, hitting .095 while committing just four attack errors. The Falcons stayed within striking distance before the Titans closed out the match with a 25-21 win.
Amanda Baumann led the Falcon attack with six kills while hitting .211 and added two service aces. Grace McDole followed with five kills, while Ava Goldsberry totaled four. Blessing Adebisi contributed three kills and four total blocks.
Cora Sayotovich totaled 13 assists and 12 digs, while Audrey Petersen led the Falcon defense with 16 digs and added three assists.
UWRF held an 8-4 advantage in total blocks against the top-ranked Titans, and improved offensively as the match progressed. After hitting -.121 in the first set, the Falcons hit .000 in the second and .095 in the third while cutting their attack errors from 11 to four.
The Falcons (8-3, 0-1 WIAC) remain in conference play next Friday, Oct. 2, hosting UW-Platteville.
