RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Crown College 5-0 at Ramer Field. The Falcons recognized 13 graduating student-athletes, the most in the WIAC after their victory over the Polars.
Five different Falcons found the back of the net as UWRF improved their winning streak to four straight and a 6-1-1 overall record. The Falcons took control of the match from start to finish, maintaining offensive possession throughout the match. River Falls outshot the Polars 36-1, including a 19-0 advantage in shots on frame.
River Falls wasted little time taking the lead. Emery Bigler opened the scoring in the 13th minute off an assist from Lexi Moen. Just over three minutes later, Brooke McDaniel doubled the Falcon lead, finishing a chance set up by Bigler and Lauren Gregory to send UWRF into halftime ahead 2-0.
The Falcons broke the match open early in the second half with three goals in less than nine minutes. Ellie Ketcher pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute off assists from Bigler and Gabby Kempf. Moen followed up her early assist with her own goal in the 54th minute, scoring off a feed from McDaniel, before Sarah Wagner capped off the scoring in the 59th minute with Madelyn Johnson providing the assist.
Bigler led the Falcon attack with five shots, three on goal with one goal and two assists. Moen finished with a goal and an assist off four shots with Ketcher also adding four more, three on goal and goal herself. McDaniel added a goal and an assist with Sarah Wagner rounding out the five Falcon scorers.
The Falcon defense was equally dominant, limiting Crown to just one shot for the entire match. Kiera Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal, earning the clean sheet as UWRF recorded its fourth consecutive victory.
The Falcons travel to Pella, Iowa, taking on Central College this upcoming Wednesday at 4 p.m.
