Edwards, Marich, Samplawski Named Players of the Week

Running back Taylor Edwards (Janesville, Parker) started the season well rushing for 191 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s 35-21 loss at Ohio Northern on Thursday. Edwards, 6-1, 208 pounds, carried the ball 30 times and averaged 6.4 yards per carry. He scored on a 53-yard run midway through the first quarter. That scored gave the Falcons an 8-7 lead. Late in the second quarter he scored on a 3-yard run that helped give the Falcons a 15-14 lead at the half.

End Steve Marich (Cottage Grove, MN, Park) had a strong game for the Falcons in the team’s 35-21 loss at Ohio Northern on Thursday. Marich, 6-5, 232 pounds, made two solo and seven total tackles. He had a sack for a five yard loss and also forced a fumble. On a third-and 11 play at the Falcons 32 late in the third quarter, Marich sacked the ONU quarterback for a five yard loss and also forced a fumble on the play. After that play ONU was forced to run another play and that pass fell incomplete turning the ball over to the Falcons.

Punter Dustin Samplawski (Stanley, Stanley-Boyd) had a solid start to the 2010 season in the team’s 35-21 loss at Ohio Northern on Thursday. Samplawski, 5-11, 228 pounds, punted twice in the game and averaged 38 yards per kick. Both of his kicks went 38 yards and the second went to the ONU 16 where it was caught and returned for just eight yards.
