Derek Staley

Derek Staley enters his third season with the men’s basketball staff in 2021-22 after spending the previous two seasons with the UW-River Falls women’s basketball staff.
 
Staley spent the 2018-19 season as the UWRF interim head women’s coach, guiding the team to a 10-15 overall record. Prior to being named interim head coach, Staley was an assistant coach for one season. As an assistant, he helped with recruiting, practice planning, scouting, and post player development. 
 
Prior to his time at UWRF, Staley was the head women’s basketball coach at UW-Marathon County where he helped the team turn around a first-year record of 3-17 into a 17-4 record in his second year. He was named conference coach of the year following the 2015-16 season. 

Staley is involved with the Falcon recruiting efforts, scouting, and  post-player development.

Originally from Cannon Falls, Minn., Cannon is a graduate of UW-River Falls with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He has a master’s degree in sports management from Concordia-St. Paul.
