The UW-River Falls volleyball team defeated UW-Superior three sets to one Wednesday in a WIAC showdown. Game scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-9.
Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) lead all players with 16 kills in the match. While teammate Sami Kaminski (Weyerhaeuser, WI, Weyerhaeuser) finished with 11. Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) and Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) finished with eight kills on the night.
Setter Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) had 38 assists helping the Falcon attack. Theis, Kaminski and Green each had three blocks and Suda chipped in two more.
Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray) dug up 12 balls to lead the Falcons. UWRF had 45 digs throughout the evening.
In game four the Falcons took advantage of a great .476 kill percentage. . The Yellowjackets were stopped by the Falcons after only managing 27 kills through the match compared to the Falcons 44. The Falcons closed out the match by a dominating score of 25-9.
The Falcons have now won three matches in a row. They improve to 2-2 at home and 14-9 overall, with a 2-4 record in the WIAC. Superior drops to 7-16 overall and 0-6 in the conference. The Falcons now lead the all-time series versus Superior 46-20.
Up next for the Falcons, as they go for their fourth consecutive win, is another WIAC matchup versus UW-Stevens Point. The match begins at noon on Saturday.
The Falcons will come back home on Wednesday when they host the third annual “Dig for a Cure” event to raise awareness for breast cancer.
