Volleyball Team Wins WIAC Match at UW-Stevens Point

The Falcon volleyball team won its fourth straight match with a three sets to one win at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons lost the first set, 25-16, but rebounded to win the next three, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17, The Falcons hit just .081 and had 11 kills in the first set. But they hit .225, .263 and an excellent .308 in the last three sets and finished with 14 kills in each set.

Middle hitter Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) led the Falcon offense with 21 kills. It is the fourth time this season that Green has had more than 21 kills in a match. She finished with a .367 hitting percentage. Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) and Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) also had strong offensive performances finished with 12 kills each. Gibbemeyer hit .312 and Theis was at .370, a team high.

The Falcons had four services aces, let by Gibbemeyer who had two. But they also had10 service errors and seven reception errors.

On the defensive side, libero Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray)led the team with 19 digs. Sami Kaminski (Weyerhaeuser, WI, Weyerhaeuser), who have seven kills, had 12 digs. UWRF had one solo and 10 block assists. Theis had the solo kills while Kaminski and Green each had three block assists.

Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) led the Falcons with 47 assists.

Christina Brinkman led UWSP, now 16-11 overall and 3-4 in WIAC play, with 14 kills.

The Falcons are now 5-5 in four-set matches and the team has won five of its last six matches.

The Falcons, now 15-9 overall and 3-4 in WIAC play, will next host UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday at the Karges Center. It will be the final WIAC match of the year for the Falcons. The match will be the team's Dig For The Cure match. Action starts at 7 p.m.
